Mr. S.M. Aamir Shamim, a seasoned banking and finance
professional with over 31 years of experience, currently also holds
the position of Managing Director (MD) and Chief Executive Officer (CEO)
at Pak Brunei Investment Company Limited. Before stepping into his current
role at Pak Brunei, Mr. Aamir served in various high-ranking roles across
international and local financial institutions, acquiring substantial
experience in Conventional, Islamic, and Investment Banking. These roles
include his time as Senior Executive Vice President (SEVP) and Group
Head of Treasury & Financial Institutions at BankIslami Pakistan Limited,
SVP & Islamic Banking Specialist at the Islamic Bank of Thailand, and
AGM & Head of Treasury & International Division at Tadhamon International
Islamic Bank Limited, among others.
Over the years, Mr. Aamir has been recognized for his professional achievements,
which include the introduction of Sukuk regulations with the SEC of
Thailand and the restructuring of SBFC which led to the formation of
the SME Bank. Mr. Aamir holds a Master’s degree in Economics from
the University of Karachi, Pakistan.
Mr. Zafar Sobani brings with him around forty years of
experience of working in the manufacturing, power sector and audit profession
in Pakistan and in the Middle East. Currently, he is on the board of
AGP Limited, Zephyr Power Limited, TRG Pakistan Limited, MUFAP, Karachi
Water and Sewerage Corporation, Sindh Economic Zone Management Company
(SEZMC) and IT Minds Limited.
During his career, he also held the position as CEO of HUBCO and Liberty
Powertech, two important players in power sector of the Company. He
also worked with House of Habib in the areas of new project development
and realestate management. Majority of his career was spent with Century
Paper & Board Mills Limited, a part of Lakson group overseeing various
business activities.
He has been the President of Institute of Chartered Accountants of Pakistan
(ICAP) and served actively in council and regional committee in various
capacities. He worked with A. F. Ferguson (PWC) in Pakistan and Ernst
& Young, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. He held the position as Chairman of
Quality Control Board of ICAP overseeing the quality of auditing profession
between 2005 and 2014. He also remained member of the Managing Committee
of Overseas Investors Chamber of Commerce and Industry. He is the Sponsor
director of Pakistan Institute of Corporate Governance and holds certification
as a trainer of corporate governance by IFC.
Mr. Shaikh has been with Pak Brunei since its inception
and has recently retired. He also holds directorships on the boards
of Nimir Industrial Chemicals Limited, Citi Pharma Limited, Primus Leasing
Limited, and Awwal Corporate Restructuring Company Limited.
With about five decades of diverse professional experience, Mr. Shaikh
has expertise in Project Management and Civil Engineering, Risk Management,
Corporate Finance, Credit Administration, Special Asset Management,
Operations, Human Resource Management, Information Technology, and General
Administration.
Prior to joining Pak Brunei, Mr. Shaikh was associated with Saudi Pak
Industrial & Agricultural Investment Company for over twenty years.
As a key member of the senior management team, he was involved in all
strategic business decisions and represented Saudi Pak on the boards
of various manufacturing and service sector companies, including Saudi
Pak Commercial Bank, Saudi Pak Insurance Company, Fecto Cement Co. Limited,
First General Modaraba Services (Pvt) Limited, Al Hamara Hills (Pvt)
Limited, and Japan Power Generation Co. Limited.
Before that, he worked as a civil engineer/project manager, managing
strategic infrastructure projects in Saudi Arabia for around ten years.
Mr. Ayyaz Ahmad is a fellow member of Institute of Chartered
Accountants of Pakistan (ICAP) and a fellow member of Institute of Corporate
Secretaries of Pakistan (ICSP). He also holds the certification of “Certified
Director” under the regulations of the Security and Exchange Commission
of Pakistan (SECP). His professional career, spanning over 35 years,
encompasses a diverse variety of responsibilities; these include, but
are not limited to, financial management, risk management, mergers and
acquisitions, internal audits, strategic planning and shariah compliance.
Most recently employed at Al Baraka Bank (Pakistan) Limited, he undertook
the roles of Chief Internal Auditor, Chief Risk Officer and Chief Financial
Officer. During his time at the organization, he was successful in creating
a significant amount of value through the design and automation of internal
audit systems, development and implementation of risk management frameworks,
revamp of organization functions for effective operations, resolution
of shariah compliance issues and implementation of important standards,
frameworks, guidelines and best practices.
The diverse nature of skills and experiences he possesses allowed him
to become an important resource for Board of Directors and Senior Management
with regard to Financial, Corporate, Risk Management and Legal matters.
Furthermore, his skills have also allowed him to assumer to other roles
such as independent Director and Chairman of Board Credit Committee,
visiting faculty member of National Institution of Management Sciences
(NIMS); The Business School for National University of Sciences & Technology
(NUST) and a Trainer in the fields of Corporate Governance, Risk Management
and Business excellence.
Dr. Lalarukh Ejaz is the Director of the Center for Entrepreneurial
Development (CED) and an Assistant Professor at the Institute of Business
Administration (IBA), Karachi.
She holds a Ph.D. from the University of Southampton Business School,
UK, and double master's degrees in Economics from York University, Canada,
and the University of Karachi, Pakistan. Additionally, she completed
a fellowship in Entrepreneurship Education from Babson College, MA,
USA. Her research interests include entrepreneurship, economics, and
gender.
Dr. Ejaz is also a Research Associate at the Center for Inclusive and
Sustainable Entrepreneurship and Innovation at the University of Southampton,
UK, and as a Research Fellow at the Population Research Center, IBA.
She has authored and published numerous research papers and case studies
in international journals and has presented her work at various prestigious
conferences. With extensive global experience in research and teaching
in Canada, the USA, and the UK, Dr. Ejaz has engaged with diverse academic
programs. Throughout her career, Dr. Ejaz has mentored and guided numerous
students, many of whom have secured positions at top firms in Pakistan
and internationally.
Mr. Rashid Rahman Mir is the Managing Partner at Rahman
Sarfaraz Rahim Iqbal Rafiq, Chartered Accountants (RSRIR), a member
firm of Russell Bedford International, a global network of professional
accountants. With over three decades of professional experience, Mr.
Mir brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to his roles.
Throughout his distinguished career, Mr. Mir has developed extensive
expertise in audit, tax matters, management consultancy, project analysis,
and corporate law. He began his professional journey in 1981 with Rahman
Sarfaraz & Co. Chartered Accountants, now known as RSRIR, where he excelled
in various managerial roles before becoming a Partner in 2001.
Mr. Mir is a Fellow Member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants
of Pakistan (ICAP), the Institute of Cost and Management Accountants
of Pakistan (ICMAP), and the Pakistan Institute of Public Finance Accountants
(PIPFA). Additionally, he is a certified Director from ICAP, underscoring
his commitment to governance and leadership excellence.
He has held several prominent positions throughout his career, including
Chairman and Independent Director at LSE Financial Services Limited
and Non-executive Director of the National Clearing Company of Pakistan
Limited (NCCPL). His leadership was further recognized when he served
as President of PIPFA in 2010-11 and ICAP in 2011-12.
Since September 2023, Mr. Mir has been serving as an Independent Director
and Chairman of the Audit Committee at Bata Pakistan Limited, where
he continues to provide strategic oversight and governance.
Mr. Irfan Ahmed, CEO of Primus Leasing Limited, is a vastly
experienced professional of leasing sector in the country. He started
his career with the country’s largest and most diversified leasing
company, ORIX Leasing Pakistan Limited (OLP). OLP is an Industry Leader
and a part of ORIX Corporation, Japan, a leading integrated financial
services & real estate conglomerate with assets of approximately US$
100 billion. It is headquartered in Tokyo and has offices & affiliates
in 26 countries. From joining in 1991, Mr. Ahmed steadily progressed
to be among the senior echelon. He was very instrumental in turnaround
of OLP after 2008 financial crisis. He has effectively led the retail
network of OLP and made very strong contributions in the areas of business
growth and expansion into newer markets, training and development of
human resources, performance evaluation, compliance and internal controls
during 25 years association with OLP. He was holding the office of Country
Marketing Head at the time of leaving OLP in 2016.
Mr. Ahmed has also played a very active role as a trainer in technical
aspects. Apart from conducting training assignments for OLP in-house,
he has also been used as a technical resource for training requirements
of MENA region associates of OLP. He has also carried out a capacity
building/ GAP analysis of a finance company in Afghanistan for IFC and
a country feasibility study in Algeria for ORIX, Japan for establishing
a leasing operation.
Mr. Ahmed has been the CEO of Primus Leasing Limited (PLL) since its
inception in 2017. During this time, he has effectively led the organization
and has made it a leading player in the Non-Banking Finance sector of
the country. Currently, PLL has a foot print in six cities of the country
and is making gradual progress over the years in terms of operational
volume, portfolio size and profitability. He has also served as Vice
Chairman of NBFI & MAP at various times.
Mr. Ahmed holds an MBA degree with specialization in Finance from Institute
of Business Administration, University of Punjab.
